Professional Painting Lessons
I have given many physical painting workshops over the years. While these are fun ways to meet new artists there are many drawbacks too. It is costly and difficult for artists to make travel plans to attend workshops. But for me there is one major issue: workshops are completed too quickly. There is no way art students can absorb and reinforce the lessons learned. Plus the lack of structured feedback, over time, means that students lose track of what to do.

What About Online Painting Courses?
Painting courses are very useful. Students can learn in their own time and costs are kept to a minimum. Yet this option does require a lot of determination and passion form artists to get the most benefit. You have to be a self-starter and keen to push on when it is easy to procrastinate.

These many issues gave me the idea to create a structured learning program over a fixed time period. Plus a feedback and accountability system that keeps students motivated. So began The Painterly Workshop. Although I focus on landscape painting the workshop teaches fundamentals that apply to any subject including portraits and figures.

What Does the Painterly Workshop Look Like?
There are two main parts to the program.
First the online learning materials. These are unique video based lessons that start with the basics and progress through six main modules. One module per month.

Secondly there is the optional feedback that I provide on work performed throughout the six month period. This is included in the Painting Tutor and Coaching Options below.
The feedback takes various forms depending on your option.

Three Main Options for Artists
As explained in the video I have three learning options depending on the needs of students. For some the self-starter approach is perfect, for others some written feedback is enough while others want to full range of coaching and support. For the latter options I have small groups due to the time commitment. Therefore enrollment is only twice a year for coaching.

The first two options can enroll all year round. Lets us look at each option more closely:

Option 1: Self-Starter

​This includes full access to ALL the video materials. 
This is the foundation of the Painterly Workshop and holds nothing back as far as video instruction is concerned.

• You get six months of video sections with the assignments for each. 
• You also can take part in the final project and a certificate is included.

• You also receive membership to my Learn to Paint closed group on Slack.

Option 2: The Painting Tutor

​This includes everything from the Self Starter Plan.  
​Plus it includes 

• full written critiques from Malcolm Dewey on your paintings and assignments. Often screen recordings too.
• See where you need to correct steps and  fine tune your painting.

Option 3: Art Coaching

​This includes everything from  Option One and Two.
Plus most importantly it includes 

• one-to-one coaching from Malcolm Dewey by video each month for six months. 
• This also includes video critiques where appropriate.  It you want full personalized coaching then this is the option for you.

​Important: Due to time constraints enrollment for this tier is held twice annually in January and June.

With Art Coaching you receive:

1. Video lessons in HD quality,
2. A monthly live video session with you;
3. A recording of the live lesson to view in your own time;​​

Group Membership Included
All levels enjoy membership to the exclusive painting group on Slack. This is not a social media group, but a dedicated group for artists keen to learn and interact. I also participate fully in the group.

Permanent Membership
Another benefit is that once you enroll in any of the categories you keep your membership. That includes all updates to the Painterly Workshop materials.
